Global’s Jeff Semple spoke with the Assembly of First Nations Chief RoseAnne Archibald, who was part of Canada’s delegation at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, about her thoughts on the service.
“We could sort of feel the energy of the grief, the concern, the people remembering and having memories. The energy of the space was really quite amazing to be a part of that,” she said.
“We have a treaty relationship with the crown. That treaty relationship and our formal relationship with the crown pre-dates Canada by 220 years – before Canada was even a country,” Archibald said when asked about her initial hesitancy in attending the event.
“We belong here,” she added.
