Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani says Doha is working with its partners to reach a ceasefire to “stop the bloodshed and to avoid a surge of violence in the region”.

“The priorities of Qatar within the diplomatic approach is to see a ceasefire, protect the civilians, to release the captives and to work hard in order not to spread violence in the region,” he said during a joint press conference in Doha with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

He added that Qatar wants to be a key player in mediation that must include a “fair solution of the Palestinian cause”.

Blinken, speaking in Doha, said efforts to get humanitarian aid into Gaza have been “complicated by the fact that Hamas continues to use innocent civilians as human shields and is reportedly blocking those Palestinians from moving to southern Gaza out of harm’s way”.

“We know the humanitarian situation is urgent. We’re actively engaged with partners, including Qatar, to get aid to those who need it,” he said.
