Qatar is preparing to hold its first legislative elections.
On Saturday, voters will choose 30 members of the 45-member Shura Council.
The body dates back to 1972, but until now was fully appointed by Qatar's emir.
The council can propose laws, approve budgets and recall ministers - though the emir will retain veto power.
Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal reports from Doha, Qatar.
