After suggesting the country has ambitions to claim former Soviet Union territories, Russian President Vladimir Putin indirectly warned Poland on Friday — and other NATO members — that an attack on Belarus would be considered aggression against Russia, amid the Russia-Ukraine war.

Putin said Moscow would react to such attacks with “all means at our disposal," during a televised meeting of his Security Council.

The Russian leader’s threats come after Poland moved more than 1,000 military troops to its East border with Belarus earlier this month; a response to the ongoing training of Russia’s private mercenary force, Wagner Group, near the border.

Wagner Group’s training has stirred concern in Poland that the war in Ukraine could potentially spill over to Poland.

Additionally, Putin suggested that the West is stoking the “flames of war” by supporting Ukraine with military aid — an act, he added, that “prolongs the conflict” between the neighbouring countries.
