China's Xi Jinping and Russia's Vladimir Putin on Thursday pledged a "new era" of partnership between the two most powerful rivals of the United States.

Xi greeted Putin on a red carpet outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for the Russian president's two-day state visit to the country, his first trip abroad after securing his 5th term in office.

Putin's visit comes weeks after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken flew into China to raise concerns about what he said was China's support for Russia's military.
