PTI gets Huge Surprise Before EID | PM AJK Election Ma Surprise | Dunya News

In a surprising turn of events, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq was unanimously elected as the 15th Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He received the biggest mandate in the history of the scenic valley's legislative assembly, obtaining 48 votes out of a 52-strong house. This came after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was disqualified by the AJK High Court in a contempt case. An assembly session held earlier in the week was adjourned without any polling taking place, as no nomination papers were submitted for any other candidate of the premiership. An emergency meeting of the AJK legislative assembly was held after midnight, during which Speaker Anwar-ul-Haq was elected as Prime Minister unopposed. Anwar-ul-Haq received votes from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), forward bloc, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He contested the election as an independent candidate and emphasized his support from both the PDM and PTI members. In his inaugural address to the assembly, he also set a power-sharing formula in concert with opposition parties. AJK President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry created a forward bloc in the assembly, with support from the PPP and PML-N. Last week, the AJK High Court disqualified Sardar Tanveer Ilyas for contempt of court, which was a setback for the PTI.
