Thousands of Russians took part in illegal protests across the country in support of Alexei Navalny, a prominent government critic who is currently on a hunger strike in prison.
The demonstrations took place in dozens of cities, though turnout appeared lower than earlier this year when people protested after Navalny was arrested.
The Interior Ministry later estimated that around 6,000 people rallied in Moscow and almost 4,500 in St. Petersburg. According to unofficial figures provided by an NGO, nearly 1,700 people have been detained across the country.
