Meet 17-year-old girl - Ahaana Bharat Ram, a student of The Shri Ram School and founder of Project Garima, which is a campaign that supports the UN Sustainable Goals 3 and 4 of good health and well-being, and quality education. In India, millions of girls drop out of school due to lack of access to sanitary pads and many lose their life as a result of poor menstrual hygiene. By educating young girls about the importance of good hygiene, Project Garima is contributing in an area where the need is the greatest. Having experienced the embarrassment of having to sneak around to change her pad during her menstruation at school, Ahaana realised that the situation is probably a lot worse in 'less educated' India. On researching about the status of the same in rural India, Ahaana felt the need to help young girls in making them feel more comfortable about the topic. Not just awareness, Ahaana's campaign helps distribute free sanitary napkins among women who have no wherewithal to buy pads and along with it creates awareness about reusable sanitary pads thereby contributing towards reducing the waste generated by the use of non-biodegradable pads.
