Both President Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have offered to resign after protesters stormed their houses over the weekend. The country has been facing a steadily growing foreign exchange crisis, as it basically ran out of money to buy essentials like food, fuel and medicines. The Rajapaksas headed a government that was blatantly majoritarian and the country's minorities bore the brunt of this.
