Police are investigating an art heist at Ottawa's Fairmont Château Laurier hotel. Photographer Yousuf Karsh's famed 1941 portrait of Sir Winston Churchill has been stolen from the hotel's reading lounge.

Since 1998, the room was home to a unique print of the famous picture of the former British prime minister -- a work that propelled world-renowned Armenian-Canadian photographer Karsh to international stardom.

Dan Spector explains how long it took for the theft to be discovered, and the story behind the famed picture.
