Polls have just opened in France, as the country votes in the first snap parliamentary elections in nearly 30 years.
The stakes are high, with the far-right hoping to make significant gains.
Two rounds of voting will choose 577 MPs, who will make up the new parliament.
Most voters will head back to ballot boxes for a second round in a week.

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen is monitoring the latest developments at a polling station in the southern city of Nice.

Bruno Cautres, a researcher at Sciences Po university, says it is “extremely likely” that the party that wins that first round of the election will win the second round.
