Politicians in Georgia withdraw from controversial 'foreign agent' bill

The Georgian Dream Ruling party decided to drop the controversial bill to regulate what it calls foreign agents after thousands of people have protested two nights in the capital Tablisi against a law they say a conscience critics of the government.

The bill forces organizations that receive at least 20 percent of their funding from abroad to register as “agents of foreign influence.” And rejecting to register, or not complying requirements, will lead to considerable fines. organizations receiving 20 percent or more of their annual income from abroad to register as “foreign agents”

"The withdrawal by the ruling party is a particular result of the society's extreme anger of what we have been facing within the last 48 hours "says Kakhaber Kemoklidze, Former head of Georgia's national security office.
