French security forces briefly fired tear gas on protesters in Paris as opponents of the far right and presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen marched in the capital on Saturday.
Thousands of demonstrators across France took to the streets on Saturday as opponents of Le Pen seek to form a united front in a bid to prevent her from winning an election runoff against Emmanuel Macron on April 24.
Macron, a pro-European Union centrist, won the presidency in 2017 after easily beating Le Pen when voters rallied behind him in the runoff to keep her far-right party out of power.
This year, however, Macron faces a much tougher challenge following the first round of voting last Sunday.
