The Chief Constable of the West Midlands, Sir David Thompson, promised to recruit 1,000 new police officers from ethnic minority backgrounds in order to build more trust between the force and local communities.
 
More recruitment of South Asians have started to come through but the force is still struggling to increase the number of black officers according to new statistics.
