Heavy security deployed ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. PM Modi reached Palli village, in Samba district from where he will address panchayats across the country on ‘Panchayati Raj Diwas’ which is celebrated every year on April 24. He is also scheduled to address a gathering there.

BACKGROUND: 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on April 24 to mark National Panchayati Raj Day. On this occasion, he would address all Gram Sabhas throughout the country and also pay a visit to Palli Panchayat in the Samba district.

The Prime Minister will also launch and lay the groundwork for a number of development initiatives in the Union Territory costing around 20,000 crore rupees. He will dedicate the Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel, which cost over three thousand one hundred crore rupees to build.
