The Prime Minister has encouraged members of the public to join in a national clap for Captain Sir Tom Moore at 6pm this evening.

After a minute's silence was held in the House of Commons in his honour, Boris Johnson paid tribute to the 100-year-old, saying he 'inspired the best in us all'.

Captain Tom raised almost £33m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden.
