A man shot dead five people, including a 3-year-old girl, during a six-minute killing spree with a pump-action shotgun on Thursday in what police believe was a case of domestic-related violence.

On Friday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the shooting "an absolutely appalling incident."

"I think that without prejudging the investigation into what happened in Plymouth, I think that what I can say at this stage is that my thoughts are very much with the families of all those who have tragically lost their lives," Johnson said.

Mass shootings are rare in the United Kingdom, where gun ownership is relatively low, and Thursday's rampage was the worst such incident in more than decade.

Police on Friday named the shooter as Jake Davison, a 22-year-old crane operator. He turned his gun on himself after killing the five victims on Thursday evening, the police said.
