Five crew members of a Pivot Airlines flight, who were detained in the Dominican Republic for months, are now back on Canadian soil.

The crew was detained in early April after local authorities alleged that drugs had been found at Punta Cana International Airport. The Mississauga, Ont.-based airline said the crew themselves had reported the suspected drugs on board their aircraft.

They had been hiding from narco criminals furious with the crew’s decision to tell officials about the drugs, the airline’s CEO has said.

As the crew members return home, Canadian unions are warning travellers at home about the risks of travelling to the Dominican Republic. Seán O'Shea reports.
