A jury in Pittsburgh, Pa., sentenced gunman Robert Bowers, who killed eleven worshippers in a 2018 attack on the Tree of Life synagogue, to death in a unanimous decision on Wednesday.

Bowers opened fire at the synagogue in 2018, killing 11 and wounding seven others. The shooter's attorneys had offered a guilty plea in exchange for a life sentence, but prosecutors refused, arguing Bowers held a deep-seated animosity and showed no remorse for his actions.

Family members of victims and survivors of the deadly attack expressed gratitude for the jurors, although they acknowledge that it will not bring their loved ones back.

"Finally justice has been served. And even though nothing will bring my dad back, I feel like a weight has been lifted and I can breathe a sigh of relief," said Leigh Stein, a family member of a victim.
