U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday visited a commuter bridge that collapsed in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Viewing the damage, the president lauded the work of emergency officials in the city in the wake of the collapse.
Biden later kicked off a speech he had been set to give on infrastructure spending with remarks about the collapse. He said the 50-year-old bridge was one of many in that city in need of repair.
“Across the country there are 45,000 bridges in poor condition. It’s just simply unacceptable,” he said.
The bridge was given a “poor” overall condition rating by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
