A pilotless flying race cars took to the skies for its inaugural flight on Wednesday, ahead of three remotely piloted races set to be held at as yet undisclosed locations later this year.

The Alauda Mk3 Airspeeder brings the Australia-based company of an electric flying car Grand Prix one step closer.

The Airspeeder is a multicopter craft based on a Formula 1 car and has a greater thrust-to-weight ration than an F15 fighter jet, the company says.

The pilots race remotely on an augmented reality sky-track visible to an audience watching via a digital stream.
