More than five years after he began a brutal war on drugs, Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday during his sixth and final State of the Nation address that the country's battle against narcotics was far from over, even in the face of a possible international prosecution.

During his speech, he also urged the public to get vaccinated and follow health protocols amid the rising cases of the Delta COVID-19 variant in the country, warning of the possibility of more restrictions, despite saying that the country can no longer afford more lockdowns.

Over a thousand Filipino activists took the streets of Manila on Monday ahead of the address. The protesters paraded a variety of banners condemning Duterte's policies, such as the alleged mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic in the country as well as human rights violations.
