After being nominated to the role of Transportation Secretary in president-elect Joe Biden's cabinet, former mayor of South Bend, Ind., Pete Buttigieg on Wednesday responded to the selection, stating there's "a lot at stake" for newer generations in infrastructure policy.

Buttigieg is the first openly gay man in U.S. history to be nominated to a federal cabinet post.

President-elect Joe Biden, alongside a virtual vice-president-elect Kamala Harris, made the nomination official Wednesday in Wilmingtom, Del.

According to reports, Biden intends to choose former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm as his energy secretary. He is also said to be planning to select Gina McCarthy, a former Environmental Protection Agency chief, for the powerful new position of domestic climate chief to run his ambitious climate plans across the federal government.
