The Punjab Police conducted a raid on Friday night at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President, Pervez Elahi, with the intention of arresting him. This move was met with severe criticism from the PTI, which had already voiced its concerns over the arrests of party workers and leaders. The six-hour-long police operation was eventually halted after the Director General of Punjab's Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Sohail Zafar Chattha, and the police contingent left the scene.

Chattha, who was present at Pervez Elahi's residence, spoke to the media and denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the police had not acted illegally. He explained that a petrol bomb was thrown at the police, who were attempting to arrest Pervez Elahi. According to Chattha, individuals present at Pervez Elahi's residence initiated the action and were not cooperating with the police. It is worth noting that the PTI had previously objected to Chattha's appointment as DG ACE and had challenged the decision of the Punjab caretaker government in court in February this year.

Initially, the police and anti-corruption officials had partially halted their operation, claiming that although Pervez Elahi was not present at his residence, his mobile phone's location showed that he was there. However, after the house help who was arrested provided information that Pervez Elahi was at his residence, the operation resumed. In total, at least 27 individuals, including Pervez Elahi's household servants and PTI workers protesting at the scene, were arrested by the police.

The raid occurred just hours after the PTI and Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government held talks on election dates. The PTI had requested that the arrests of their workers be stopped, and they had warned that the talks might derail if the law enforcers' actions did not come to a halt. Analysts suggest that the authorities' pressure tactics are actually boosting Imran Khan's popularity. It is worth noting that none of the government's members have faced such late-night raids so far.

This is not the first time that Pervez Elahi's house has been raided. In February this year, police raided his house twice but returned without arresting him. In March, Punjab Police also raided Imran Khan's Zaman Park residence, which was called off after court orders. During the operation, the police cordoned off the Chaudhary Zahoor Elahi Road outside Pervez Elahi's residence.
