Peru's government has more than doubled its official coronavirus death toll to more than 180,000, making it the country with the highest coronavirus-related per capita death toll in the world.
A government review finds that 180,764 died from the disease – as opposed to the previous official figure of 69,342.
The government said it had reassessed the criteria for attributing COVID-19 as the cause of death and revised its figures upwards on the advice of Peruvian and international experts.
Al Jazeera's Laura Burdon-Manley reports.
