Paul Pelosi attacked: Prosecutors say suspect sought to take Speaker hostage

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said Monday that the man accused in the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul last Friday had forced his way into their home allegedly to take her hostage, according to a federal criminal complaint filed.

"What is clear, based on evidence that we have thus far, is that this house and the Speaker herself were specifically targets of the defendant," Jenkins said.

The man with ties to Canada has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping, among other charges. Jenkins called the incident "politically motivated" and added that he enacted "what we believe is an attempt to murder her husband at the time that the police arrived." She also said that he had entered the home with a hammer, separate from the one he had pulled away from Pelosi, as well as zip ties, rope and a roll of tape.
