A high court in Pakistan overturned jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's conviction on charges of leaking state secrets, his lawyer and his party said on Monday, but Khan will remain in prison for now due to a sentence in another case.

The former prime minister's sister, Aleema Khan, was also outside the court and said, "It was such an embarrassing case for Pakistan, and I'm really glad that the judiciary sort of came to a conclusion, and they buried the charges and declared the ex-prime minister and the ex-foreign minister innocent. As I said again, it should not have dragged that long.”

Imran Khan was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison by a lower court for allegedly making public a classified cable sent to Islamabad by Pakistan's ambassador in Washington in 2022. He has been in jail since August last year.
