Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is claiming victory in the general election, announcing that his party has the most seats and will begin talks to form a coalition government.
Votes are still being counted a day after polls closed, in an election marked by violence and allegations of vote-rigging. Sharif's military-backed Pakistan Muslim League had been the favorites to win.
Provisional results from the election commission show they've won 62 seats out of 265 seats.
Despite claiming to be the largest party, he said they still do not have enough seats to form a government by themselves.
Pakistani voters have expressed frustation with the unusual delay in the vote counts, with some even casting doubt over the intergrity of the election.
For more on this, we talk to Farzana Shaikh. She is an associate fellow at Chatham House.
