As parts of southern Pakistan prepare for more flooding, an analyst at Pakistan's meteorological department says climate change factors contributed to the deadly catastrophe.
Record monsoon rains and melting glaciers in the northern mountains have triggered the floods that have killed at least 1,191 people, including 399 children. Sardar Sarfaraz also cited Pacific and Indian Ocean temperatures, excessive heat from March to June, and greenhouse gasses increasing from fossil fuel use in transport.
"Global warming will not stop until we curtail greenhouse gasses and if global warming does not stop, these climate change effects will be on the rise," Sarfaraz said.
Meanwhile, in two neighbouring Pakistani towns in Sindh province, people who had been displaced were using everything from cooking pans, rafts and boats to ferry their possessions across waterlogged towns. About one-third of the country has been left underwater as a result of the flooding.
