Thousands of trucks are lined up at an airfield outside of London, unable to enter France, after French President Emmanuel Macron decided to take a 48-hour hiatus from all travel coming in from the UK. And like the majority of travel-related interruptions in 2020, the reason is Covid. More specifically, though, the ban was issued due to a new variant of coronavirus making the rounds in England.
The temporary trade and travel ban has raised fears of an impending perishable food shortage in the UK, if these restrictions drag on. Speaking at a press conference, Boris Johnson claimed that there were a total of 170 trucks stuck in that line, but several hours later Home Secretary Priti Patel said that there were actually over 1,500.
