It’s a silent pandemic. A recent study estimates that at least 1.1 million children around the world have lost a parent or more of their primary caregivers. The virus has hit families so quickly that often they could not prepare for the worst case. The same is true for many governments that in the midst of a pandemic where not quick enough to react. As a consequence the pandemic has left behind tragic consequences for children creating a scale of family loss the world has not seen since other mass-fatality outbreaks, like Ebola or HIV. As Indonesia's COVID death toll reached more than 140,000 this week, the impact on children is particularly high.
