Sgt. Eric Mueller was killed and two of his colleagues were injured, after they were ambushed on a residential street in the town of Bourget, Ont. early Thursday morning.

The officers arrived at a home in the small community around 2 a.m., after someone called 911 reporting gunshots. When they arrived, a 39-year-old man opened fire, killing Mueller and injuring two veteran officers. Police arrested the suspect at the scene.

Mueller was just 42-years-old, and he had spent half of his life as a police officer in the Ottawa area. He is the tenth Canadian police officer to die in the line of duty in less than a year.
