The medical officer of health for Peel Region is invoking powers under Ontario law to order all local schools closed for in-person classes due to COVID-19. Schools in those jurisdictions will move to online learning until at least April 18.

As of Monday afternoon, Toronto’s medical officer of health opted against issuing a similar order.

Travis Dhanraj reports on the province’s response to the closure of schools in the municipality and has more on Ontario's education minister – whose office has reiterated that schools are safe.
