There are more than 240 fires burning across the Northwest Territories, including the town of Hay River.

The community is still under threat from a nearby blaze, with the thick smoke hampering firefighting efforts from the sky.

But as the territory’s evacuees remain on edge over wildfires, essential workers are now being allowed back home.
