Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the need for action rather than words to achieve objectives.

He was addressing the opening session of the Pakistan Minerals Summit - Dust to Development held in Islamabad.

The summit aims to attract foreign investment, an aspect appreciated by the Saudi minister.

Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the interruptions caused by corruption in the development of the mineral sector. He cited the example of the Pakistan Steel Mills which was established with Russian cooperation in the 70s. He said it faced challenges due to corruption.

COAS Munir calls for joint efforts to revive economy

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir on Tuesday emphasised the need for concerted efforts to revive the country's economy.

Addressing the Pakistan Mineral Summit, COAS Munir said: "We must not despair. The government has taken all the institutions on board and ensured the formation of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC)".

Fawad submits written apology to ECP in contempt case

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed his concern about the increasingly bitter political environment in the country that was not suitable for holding elections.

Mr Fawad personally appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and submitted a written apology in contempt case.

Two policemen escorting polio team gunned down in Quetta


Two policemen escorting a polio team were gunned down in Quetta on Tuesday.

The tragic incident took place in Nawa Killi area of Quetta where the anti-polio drive was in full swing.

The police officials were on duty to provide security to the polio teams when some assailants opened fire. The suspects fled the scene after firing.

The rescue officials and police reached the spot and shifted the dead bodies to a nearby hospital. The deceased were identified as constable Shaukat Ali and Syed Muhammad.
