A new international study found that in the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, suicide rates didn’t rise in many parts of the world. The study tracked suicide rates between April and July 2020 in 21 countries including Canada and found no evidence the pandemic caused an increased risk.
In Canada, it found a reduction in suicide rates in both British Columbia and Alberta.
Heather Yourex-West looks at the drop in suicide rates in the two Canadian provinces, while anxiety and stress levels increase as the pandemic drags on.
