While the NHL has been drawing praise for its efforts to be more inclusive by holding Pride Nights, the league has also faced participation problems with the events.

San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer and Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Ivan Provorov refused to wear rainbow-themed jerseys this season, while the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and Minnesota Wild scrapped plans to wear Pride uniforms altogether.
