A total of 10 bills have been signed into law by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday to tighten gun control, including one that raises the minimum age to purchase a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21.

“In New York, we are taking bold, strong action. We're tightening the red flag laws to keep guns away from dangerous people,” the governor said. “And we're raising the age of semiautomatic weapons, so no 18-year-old can walk in on their birthday and walk out with an AR-15. Those days are over.”

State lawmakers passed the bills following two mass shootings in the past month: at a supermarket in Buffalo, N.Y., in which 10 people were slain and at a school in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were killed. In both cases, the alleged gunman was 18 years old.
