The new Waterford crystal panels were installed on the famed Times Square ball ahead of New York City’s big New Year’s Eve bash.
Of the 2,688 crystal triangles on the ball, 192 were replaced with panels representing the 2023 theme “Gift of Love.”
“We need this after the pandemic. We’ve all gone through a horrendous two years,” said Tom Brennan, spokesperson and master artisan for Waterford Crystal, about this year’s theme.
“We’ve come out the other side of it and we’ve come out better.”
The iconic ball drop has been accompanied by varying levels of restrictions on in-person viewing since 2020 but for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, there will be no restrictions in place.
