New Year’s Eve preparations underway in New York City’s Times Square

Preparations are underway in New York for the city’s annual New Year’s eve bash, with organizers making sure the confetti drop will go off without a hitch and upgrading the iconic crystal ball.

Organizers through handfuls of multi-coloured confetti from the Hard Rock Café marquee as part of the annual confetti test.

When the ball drops, some three thousand pounds of confetti will also be released.

The panels on the iconic Waterford Crystal ball were also upgraded with a new design, which organizers called “the Gift of Wisdom.”

The total number of attendees in Times Square will be capped at 15,000 amid a surge in the number of cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
