The government is offering £1,000 to new childcare staff to attract more people into the sector ahead of the rollout of free hours starting in April.

A recruitment campaign has been launched as nurseries and childminders say they are experiencing a staffing and funding crisis which could derail plans to offer 15 subsidised hours a week to all two-year-olds in England.

The Education Secretary Gillian Keegan told Sky News that "it's a big delivery project" which they are "working on".
