An investigation has been launched after Darrell House, a man with Native American heritage, was repeatedly tasered by a park ranger at a national monument in New Mexico for going off-trail and refusing to show identification.
Darrell House, who is a Marine veteran, said that he came to Albuquerque’s Petroglyph National Monument to pray and went off the path for social distancing purposes.
‘I come here to pray and speak to my Pueblo Ancestor relatives. Even though I’m Navajo and Oneida, I honor this land. I didn’t feel I needed to identify myself for doing absolutely nothing wrong. I’m traumatized. My left leg is numb and still bleeding.’
After footage of the altercation appeared on social media, the National Park Service claimed to have put the incident ‘under review’ and said it had been referred to an internal affairs unit for a ‘thorough investigation.’
