On January 25, India commemorated its 12th National Voters' Day. The anniversary marks the founding day of India's Election Commission, which is in charge of holding free and fair elections in the country. In 2011, the first National Voters' Day was observed in order to encourage young people to vote. The National Voters' Day celebrations take place ahead of the February Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, and Uttarakhand.
