NASA's rover, Perseverance, is set to touch down on Mars on Thursday after seven months of travel through space.

The rover is considered the most advanced robotic lab flown from Earth, and will search for evidence of past microbial life on Crater Jezero, a site on the Red Planet where a lake likely existed 3.5 billion years ago. Samples taken from the dried lake will be brought back to Earth over the next decade for research.

A mini helicopter will also be brought out during the rover's time on the planet to test for controlled flights, and will attempt to convert carbon dioxide in Mars' atmosphere into pure oxygen. Global's Sharmeen Somani tells us more about why this mission to Mars is so significant.
