Speaking at a NASA news conference on Wednesday, OSIRIS-Rex principal investigator Dante Lauretta discussed the mission, which has the goal to bring asteroid samples back to earth.
He said bringing this material to earth could be representative of the "seeds of life" the asteroids delivered at the start of the planet.
"We're looking for clues as to why Earth is a habitable world, this rare jewel in outer space that has oceans," Lauretta said.
