Thousands took to the streets on Friday evening in London, Ont., for a show of unity that capped off one of the most traumatic weeks in the city's history. A vehicle attack last Sunday left four members of a Muslim family dead and a nine-year-old boy in hospital.

London police say the victims of the attack were targeted because of their faith.

Addressing the crowd before the march, Rev. Kevin George said he wanted their safety and peaceful presence to say to the Muslim community and the young boy in hospital that "we love you," adding "love will overwhelm hatred every day of the week." London Mayor Ed Holder also told the crowd the night was a vigil to grieve for the family and "taking back the streets of London for all citizens in this community."

Several other members of the public and faith communities spoke, praising people for coming together and taking part in the walk, calling it a journey from a place of darkness to light
