After an intense two-day search, 21-month-old Nicola Tanturli was found unharmed at the bottom of a ravine following two nights alone in woods near his home in Tuscany.
The boy was reported missing after he wandered out of his family home during the early hours of Monday morning. His disappearance was the subject of a round-the-clock search and dominated Italian media coverage.
Nicola was discovered when a journalist covering the search heard the boy’s cries and was able to quickly assemble some local police to rescue the boy from the remote ravine almost two miles from his home.
Footage captured Nicola’s emotional reunion with his mother who was consoled by attending police officers, telling her that ‘the nightmare is over’ as she embraced her son.
