The US state of Texas is seeing its highest number of COVID-19 cases in months.
It is particularly bad in Houston, where hospitals are operating at nearly full capacity.
And as most public schools are set to begin classes in coming weeks, city and county officials are wrestling with decisions about whether to impose mask wearing as the Delta variant sweeps through a largely unvaccinated population.
More school districts in Texas are pushing back against Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order banning mask mandates, joining districts in other states to file lawsuits over the issue.

Al Jazeera's Phil Lavelle reports from Houston, in the US state of Texas.
