Updated bylaws governing Montreal libraries are now giving staff another reason to kick out patrons.
Those who have “personal hygiene which inconveniences other users or the personnel,” will have to exit the public space upon request, a controversial public notice reveals.
Sam Watts from the Welcome Hall Mission suggested to Global News that the City of Montreal was targeting “vulnerable” patrons, like those experience homelessness, and instead, should make efforts to create “solutions” for struggling individuals.
The new rule, however, was not meant to exclude anyone, an official from the City of Montreal said. Our Phil Carpenter shares the details.
