Rescuers in a remote area of the Atlantic Ocean are in a race against time to find a tourist submersible that went missing during a dive to the wreck of the Titanic. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The vessel - named the Titan - lost contact with the surface around an hour and 45 minutes into the expedition on Sunday. The US coast guard estimates the sub had up to four days of emergency oxygen.
The search for the vessel is taking place around 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland in Canada - with the wreck itself more than 12,000 feet down on the ocean floor. US and Canadian planes are currently sweeping the area - and deploying sonar equipment to try and detect signs of movement.
Meanwhile, more details are emerging about the five people on board.
They include Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, along with 58-year-old British explorer Hamish Harding, and a French explorer named Paul-Henry Nargeolet. Stockton Rush - the boss of OceanGate, which runs the trips - is also thought to be on the vessel.
OceanGate have been running expeditions to the Titanic since 2021 - with passengers paying nearly £200,000 for a place.
The ship - which sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage - has been the subject of intense interest since its wreck was discovered in 1985.
